Development and SustainabilityThe Bachelor of Science (External) in Environment, Development, and Sustainability degree program is offered by the Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences at the University of Colombo. GCE Advanced Level Examination (local) – Three passes in one sitting in Biology, Mathematics, or Commerce Streams, or in the Arts (with Geography as a subject).

Blended learning is the delivery method for these classes. On weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday), there is an online component to each and every lecture and debate that takes place.

Biotechnology and Microbiology  Programme Structure:

The Bachelor of Science degree in Environment, Development, and Sustainability can be earned in just three years (90 Credits / SLQF Level 5), and it is structured with three distinct levels.

LEVEL I: Diploma in Environment, Development and Sustainability (30 Credits)

LEVEL II: Advanced Diploma in Environment, Development and Sustainability (60 Credits)

LEVEL III: BSc in Environment, Development and Sustainability (90 Credits)

Method of Study:

Because the environment and sustainable development are hands-on disciplines, we will place the utmost importance on making sure that our students have a comprehensive understanding of the relevant practical information. The curriculum is meant to cover a variety of topics, including theory, practice, and hands-on experience in the field. The Learning Management System (EDP_LMS) will be used to handle all of the courses, with the goal of improving the overall quality of the educational experience. Every student will be granted access to the EDP_LMS in order to view the lecture materials and participate in the learning activities that are being kept there. Additional online discussion classes will take place at regular intervals for the purpose of providing students with the opportunity to engage in conversation with the instructors.

Program Evaluation:

Written examinations and/or assignments will be used, depending on the circumstances, to assess students’ mastery of the theoretical course modules. The laboratory course modules will be evaluated based on the completion of assignments and/or tests at the end of the semester. A mixed-mode evaluation that includes continuous assessments can be required for certain course units under certain circumstances. The requirements for level certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and degrees can all be found in the section under “Degree-Awarding Criteria.”
