The study of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering encompasses both the operational and the maintenance-oriented facets of aircraft. This course will educate students on a wide range of topics, including aircraft construction, power systems, aerodynamics, as well as workshop and hangar procedures. The department has its own in-house laboratory facilities, and students get hands-on experience by flying real planes and using the equipment they have accessible. In order to maintain a robust practical base, training at the aircraft engineering and flying units of the Sri Lanka Air Force as well as field trips are carried out.

The program is run by highly trained members of the internal and external academic staff. These individuals have expertise in a wide range of diverse subdisciplines that fall under the umbrella of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering subject. In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority provides help in the form of resource professionals that are both knowledgeable and experienced in order to successfully carry out this program. Students who successfully complete the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering degree program will be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. This degree equips students to confidently pursue careers in the aviation industry as qualified Aircraft Maintenance Engineers. In addition, completion of this course makes it easier to fulfill the prerequisites for getting an Aircraft Maintenance License granted by the CAA SL.
