The Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka was first incorporated as Limited liability entity under Company act and this institute later incorporated by parliament Act of 2007 . The Institute of Quantity Surveyors is only professional body for Quantity Surveyors in Sri Lanka. The institute got higher recognition of Sri Lanka as prestigious professional institutes. There are so many membership categoires provided by this institute and this is the only institute for quantity Surveyors in Sri Lanka. This institute also joined hands with other quantity surveyors associations worldwide and those who got membership of this institute got the international recognition as a professional Quantity Surveyor.
Membership Categories of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL)
Membership Categories and Paths to Membership of Quantity Surveyors, Sri Lanka (IQSSL) consists of seven (7) types of membership categories as follows.
- Fellow members
- Associate members
- Graduate members
- Registered members
- Technical members
- Probationary members
- Student members
Probationary Member
Those who got 13 years experience in Approved Employment other than tertiary educational institute with 5 years in senior capacity can obtain the Probationary Membership of IQSSL.
Registered Member
The Probationary Members who got 2 Years Diary and ATC with Viva voce are eledigble to obtain Registered Membership of IQSSL
Graduate Member
The Most famous Membership Category of this Institute is Graduate Member and to become Graduate Member of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Sri Lanka candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree qualification on Quantity Surveying plus one year of post qualification experience. Those who obtain mentioned qualifications are eligible to follow examination on written/ oral which conducted at the institute.
Graduate Membership Qualifying Examination (GMQE)”
Exam to become Graduate member call as “Graduate Membership Qualifying Examination (GMQE)” and the main purpose of GMQE is to get assessment of the quantity surveying knowledge and competency level. There are seven modules of exams and applicant must obtain overall average of 50 percent of the exam in same sitting. Those who get less than average 50 percent get chance for only two more attempts. Following are the seven modules for GMQE exam.
- GMQE 101 : Advanced Building Measurement
- GMQE 102 : Civil Engineering Measurement
- GMQE 103 : Contract Management
- GMQE 104 : Construction Economics
- GMQE 105 : Construction Law
- GMQE 106 : Construction Technology
- GMQE 107 : Project Planning & Control
Those who successful at written exam shall call for oral examination
Technical Membership
College of Quantity Surveying also conduct their study program and this study course consist several Level such as
- Foundation Level
- Level I
- Level II
- Level III
Those who complete College of Quantity Surveying’s Level III plus one year of experience can obtain Technical Membership of the Institute and this membership is equal to Graduate Membership of this Institute.
Associate Member of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL)
- Those who obtain Technical Membership with three years diary in approved employment other than a tertiary education institution plus Viva can get the Associate Membership of IQSSL.
- Graduate Member with two years diary in approved employment other than a tertiary education institution plus Viva can get the Associate Membership of IQSSL.
- The Registered Member with five years continuous experienced in Approved employment with two years diary after first three years and APC with Viva are eligible to obtain Associate Membership of IQSSL.
- Approved Corporate membership of an overseas professional QS institution recognized by IQSSL and in accordance with relevant reciprocal agreement can Orbiting the Associate Membership of IQSSL.
The College of Quantity Surveying, Sri Lanka (IQSSL)
The College of Quantity Surveying is the educational arm of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL) and this institute was established under parliament act in the year of 2007. The College of Quantity Surveying developed several study programs for those who interest to get higher education under the field of Quantity Surveying.
