Medical Laboratory SciencesBachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences is 4 years Degree program which conducted under Dept. of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences at Open University of Sri Lanka.Open University is one of the 15 National Universities of Sri Lanka and This University is established in 1980 Under Universities Act No.16 of 1978. Open university of Sri Lanka comes under the purview of University Grant Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka. There are over 33000 approximately student population in this university. Main University is located at Colombo Regional Center at Nawala and there are six regional center and 19 study centers spared around island wide.

Entrance Educational Qualification

Following are the Entrance Qualification for enter in to following specialized areas of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences undergraduate degree programmes.

  • Registration as a Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist with the Sri Lanka Medical Council and
  • Three years of post-qualifying experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and
  • Three passes at the GCE A/L (in any number of sittings) with Chemistry as a subject

or

  • Obtained a minimum of passes for Chemistry I & Chemistry II and passes in other 2 disciplines at the Foundation Course in Science offered by the OUSL

or

  • Combination of above Three years of post-qualifying experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and Three passes at the GCE A/L (in any number of sittings) with Chemistry as a subject

or

  • Successful completion of the Advanced Certificate of Laboratory Technology (ACLT) offered by the OUSL with at least a B- grade for PSC2322

Those who have higher qualifications may be granted exemptions from relevant courses in a programme.

The Levels of Medical Laboratory Sciences Degree Program

This undergraduate program assigned with several levels and its depending on the relative complexity and course content. The Bachelor Program include Four Levels such as follow.

  • Level 3 (1st year)
  • Level 4 (2nd year)
  • Level 5 (3rd year)
  • Level 6 (4th year)

Level 3/4 Diploma Level

Level 5/6 Degree Level

To Complete the General Degree in Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences, a student must complete 108 Credits. The credit rating assigned to a particular program reflect the amount of time which an average student is expect to devote for study and normally 1 credit is estimated as 40 to 50 hours.
